Hunting Snake

What mood does the poet create in this poem?

Hunting snake. A poem by Judith Wright. The poem explains an event where she was confronted by a big black snake. They were walking when suddenly a big black snake passed by infront of their eyes. It was hunting it’s prey. The writer explained the event with adjactives that gives the mood in the poem. The title “ Hunting Snake” means the snake is hunting it’s prey not the humans which are hunting the snake.  The mood the author creates differ on every stanza.  At the first and second stanza she used  positive adjactives on describing the weather. On  the part where the snake confronted them, she starts to use intense adjactives to make the mood serious. At the end she used adjactives that describes relieved and calm.
“Sun warmed in this late season’s grace”. The bolded word explains the situation at that time. The word grace describes the situation at it’s best and heavenly.  “ under the autumn’s  gentlest sky” gentlest means that the the weather at that time was calm and peaceful making the mood lively and calm.  The author used positive adjactives to describe the weather and situatiion before they enter the situation when they are confronted by the snake.  It is easy to notice because when the author talks about the weather she used the words which sets the situation peaceful.
As the author enters the part where they are confronted by the snake, she uses a more gloomy and scary adjactives. But before she gets to the part where they saw the snake, she describes the snake as a magnificent creature. “ Sun glazed his curves of diamond scales”  it means that the skin of the is as bright as a diamond when it is hit by sun rays. When the author gets into the part where they are confronted by the snake, she starts to use more intense adjactive/phrase to set the mood serious.  “ We lost breath to watch him pass”. They were startled by the snake as it pass infront of their eyes. The mood at that situation was scared or shocked.  “Fled living from his fierce intent” It’s prey is scared as it is hunted by the snake.  The word fierce adds the mood more intense because it means to show intense and ferocius emotion. The snake was hunting it’s  prey ferociously.  “ Cold, dark and splendid”  the author described the snake as a magnificent creature.
At the end the author uses words to show that they are relieved that the snake is gone.  “ We took a deeper breath of day” They took a a breath means that they are relieved. They are relieved because they were safe from the snake. “Looked at each other and went on” they walked on and continued they’re life because they were lucky that they are safe from the snake.
The author differs her language to set the mood different at every situation. She used phrases and adjactives so the mood is easier to acknowledge. Words are a great tool to set moods and create a thrill in every situation.

The Adventure of Tom Sawyer

THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The book was written by Mark Twain in 1876. The novel is about a young boy who lived in St. Petersburg, Missouri along the Mississippi River.  Published by the American Publisher Company in the year 1876.
Tom Sawyer, a mischievous young boy who lives with his Aunt Polly and his stepbrother Sid.  After playing hooky from school and made his clothes dirty after a fight he was ordered to paint the fence white as a punishment on Saturday.  But he managed to persuade his friends to trade him small treasures for them doing his work.  Then he trades the treasure he gets for tickets at Sunday school that can be traded for a bible. But then he answered a question wrong about the bible and loses his glory.
Tom fell in love with a new girl in town, Becky. He persuades Becky to kiss him. She kissed him but then she learned that Tom has kissed Amy Lawrence before.  After Becky rejected him, then he accompanies Huckleberry Finn to the graveyard at night to try a “cure for warts. In the graveyard, they witnessed Injun Joe murdered. Tom and Huck swore not to tell anyone about the incident. Injun accused his partner, Muff Potter for the crime that he has done.
Later then, the boys went to an island and became pirates. The town community search for their body because they are suspected dead. They showed up at the funeral and made an entrance by surprising everyone that they are alive.  Soon the trial of Muff Potter has started.  With the guild Tom has he testified and the twist of the story has begun thrilling.
In the story, I dislike Tom. Tom is so tricky; he pulled a stunt and make a scene just to cover his guilt. The  story is more suitable for children because the plot line and the character’s attitude is rather childish and fiction compared to what would happen in real life. If I would rate this book, I would give 4 stars for the creativity and the thrill considering the novel was made in 1876.

Wuthering Heights

As love is as unexplainable as destiny, there are just somethings that are just meant to be. Wuthering height's Heathcliff and Cathy's relationship is romantic yet still tragic. They knew each other for their whole life and they lived together since they were kids. They comfort each other in sad times and understand each others problem perfectly. Yet still they aren't together even though they have a special bond like that.
I think the relationship between Heathcliff and Cathy is tragic because they become further away from where they used to be. Cathy married another man just because he is rich. Edgar (the man cathy married) is a wealthy man and has a far better chance of having a good life compared to Heathcliff. In the book Cathy said "And he will be rich, and I shall like to be the greatest woman of the neighbourhood, and I shall be proud of having such a husband." She chose wealth and status instead of true love and happines. Heathcliff became blinded with revenge. He marry Isabella who is Edgar's sister.  He treated her bad and their son Linton worst. Isabella then died.Edgar and Cathy has a daughter named Catherine. Cathy died giving birth to her. Edgar became crazy and died eventually making Heathcliff the owner of Thruscross grange and Wuthering Heights.
It's not all sadness and tragedy in their relationship. It is also romantic because they can't let go of each other even if they are both married. Before they were apart when Catherine's father died they comfort each other even though they were kids their minds were like 2 that became 1 and all though when they became adults, they tried to find a way to not hate each other.
To me their love story is tragically romantic and my opinion is based on the facts in the book. All the love in their world became a tragedy that ruined their morality but even though that they became seprate, their son and daughter became together to fulfill their parent's destiny.

Don't Call Me Ishmael

Written by Michael Gerard Bauer, the book "Don't Call Me Ishmael" won the 2008 award for children's literature at Writers' Week, Australia's oldest writers' festival. This book was published at the year of 2006 and has a genre of "young-adult fiction".
The main character of the story is Ishmael Leseur, Ishmael claims to have a syndrome called Ishmael leseur's syndrome- a chronic ailment capable of turning an otherwise normal person into a ‘walking disaster area registering nine point nine on the open-ended
imbecile scale’. He was bullied by a kid named Barry Bagsley. Barry teases him about his name and he tries to avoid Barry and acts invisible but swears to stand up to Barry in Year nine. His year nine teacher, Miss Tarango told the whole class about the name Ishmael coming from Moby Dick.  A new boy called James Scobie becomes a target for bullying because of his appearance. James responds to the bully's insults with humour. He tells the class that he is fearless because he has a brain tumor that damaged the part of his brain that feels fear. Barry is the only person that does not believe James. About a week later Barry puts a lot of insects and spiders in James's desk, but James is not scared. During a rugby match James's fearlessness changes the game.Orazio Zorzotto an active and independent boy, Bill kingsley a fat sci-fi geek and Ignatius Prindabel a nerd.
This book is a bit boring when a teen reads this. I think it's suitable for kids because kids these days never read kiddy books no more.
