As love is as unexplainable as destiny, there are just somethings that are just meant to be. Wuthering height's Heathcliff and Cathy's relationship is romantic yet still tragic. They knew each other for their whole life and they lived together since they were kids. They comfort each other in sad times and understand each others problem perfectly. Yet still they aren't together even though they have a special bond like that.
I think the relationship between Heathcliff and Cathy is tragic because they become further away from where they used to be. Cathy married another man just because he is rich. Edgar (the man cathy married) is a wealthy man and has a far better chance of having a good life compared to Heathcliff. In the book Cathy said "And he will be rich, and I shall like to be the greatest woman of the neighbourhood, and I shall be proud of having such a husband." She chose wealth and status instead of true love and happines. Heathcliff became blinded with revenge. He marry Isabella who is Edgar's sister. He treated her bad and their son Linton worst. Isabella then died.Edgar and Cathy has a daughter named Catherine. Cathy died giving birth to her. Edgar became crazy and died eventually making Heathcliff the owner of Thruscross grange and Wuthering Heights.
It's not all sadness and tragedy in their relationship. It is also romantic because they can't let go of each other even if they are both married. Before they were apart when Catherine's father died they comfort each other even though they were kids their minds were like 2 that became 1 and all though when they became adults, they tried to find a way to not hate each other.
To me their love story is tragically romantic and my opinion is based on the facts in the book. All the love in their world became a tragedy that ruined their morality but even though that they became seprate, their son and daughter became together to fulfill their parent's destiny.
